Surat Police Book History-Sheeter Chirag Goti and Aide in Extortion Case

In a significant development, the Katargam police in Surat have officially registered a case against notorious history-sheeter Chirag Goti and his associate Yuvraj Jadav. The charges include alleged extortion, criminal intimidation, and issuing threats at gunpoint, stemming from a formal complaint lodged by a local businessman, Prabhat Vyas.

Details of the Alleged Extortion Incident

According to police reports, the incident dates back to October 2021. Complainant Prabhat Vyas alleged that Chirag Goti contacted him via phone and demanded a staggering sum of Rs 50 lakh. This demand was purportedly for the release of four plots of land that Vyas had already paid for to another individual, Hitesh Makwana. Goti allegedly claimed that his associates had taken possession of these plots and would only relinquish them upon receiving the payment.

Vyas further stated in his complaint that he later met Goti at an office located in the Katargam area. During this meeting, both Chirag Goti and Yuvraj Jadav reiterated the monetary demand. Shockingly, Goti reportedly brandished a revolver during the encounter, threatening Vyas directly. Under duress and following intervention from others present, Vyas allegedly agreed to pay a reduced amount of Rs 42 lakh.

Escalation of Threats and Additional Demands

Police investigations reveal that after receiving the Rs 42 lakh, Goti did release the four plots of land. However, he instructed Vyas to coordinate the final transfer details with his aide, Yuvraj Jadav. When Vyas contacted Jadav as directed, the situation escalated further.

Jadav allegedly made an additional demand for 7.41-carat diamonds, valued at approximately Rs 4.81 lakh. He is accused of threatening and physically assaulting Vyas before forcibly taking the diamonds. Despite this, the transfer of the plots was not completed as promised, leading to the formal police complaint.

Legal Actions and Previous Cases

An FIR has been registered against Chirag Goti and Yuvraj Jadav under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. This legal action underscores the seriousness of the allegations, which include extortion and criminal intimidation with a deadly weapon.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first time Chirag Goti has faced such charges. Earlier, the Chowk Bazar police station had also registered a separate FIR against Goti and six other individuals in a case involving extortion and abduction. This pattern highlights ongoing concerns regarding criminal activities in the region.

The Surat police are actively investigating the matter to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served. The case has drawn attention to the challenges of combating organized extortion and intimidation in urban areas, with authorities urging victims to come forward and report such incidents promptly.
