Surat Tribal Woman Files Rape and Blackmail Complaint Against Diamond Worker
Police in Surat's Varachha area have registered a serious case following a disturbing complaint from a 29-year-old tribal woman. She alleges that a 33-year-old diamond worker raped her and then used nude videos to blackmail her. The accused reportedly threatened to circulate these videos on social media if she did not comply with his demands.
Details of the Alleged Assault and Blackmail
According to the official complaint, the accused works at a diamond unit within the Varachha police station jurisdiction. He had developed a relationship with the woman, who works as a textile laborer at a nearby unit. The man allegedly took her to a location where he forced her into a physical relationship. During this assault, he recorded a nude video without her consent.
The accused then used this video to blackmail the victim. He warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone. When she refused to meet his further demands, he escalated the harassment. The man reportedly sent the explicit videos to her relatives. He also threatened her children directly.
Social Media Abuse and Police Action
The harassment took a more public turn when the accused created an Instagram account in the victim's name. He used this fake account to share the private videos and images publicly. This act caused immense distress to the woman and her family.
Fed up with the continuous threats and public humiliation, the victim finally approached the Varachha police. She filed a formal complaint detailing the entire ordeal. The police have registered the case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They have also invoked the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
Officers from the Surat SC-ST cell have taken swift action. They have detained the accused diamond worker for questioning. The police have sent him for a mandatory medical examination as part of the standard procedure. The investigation into this serious matter is currently underway. Authorities are collecting evidence and recording statements to build a strong case.
