A woman in Surat, Gujarat, has been taken into police custody after a disturbing incident where she was caught on camera physically assaulting a young boy. The altercation stemmed from the child allegedly ringing her apartment doorbell multiple times and running away.
The Incident: From Annoyance to Assault
According to police sources, the event unfolded on Saturday evening. The accused woman, who lives on the first floor of her apartment complex, was alone and engaged in household chores when her doorbell rang. Upon answering, she found no one there. This sequence repeated itself about five times.
Frustrated, she finally waited by the door and reportedly saw a minor boy from the same residential block press the bell before darting off towards the parking area. The woman then followed him to the parking lot, where he was playing with other children.
CCTV Captures the Confrontation
It was in the parking area that the situation escalated violently. CCTV cameras installed in the building captured the woman grabbing the boy. The footage, which later circulated online, showed her dragging him along the floor and slapping him multiple times. After the assault, she is said to have warned all the children present against ringing her doorbell again.
Police Action and Public Apology
The boy's father discovered the incident upon returning home late on Sunday night. After reviewing the CCTV footage, he confronted the woman and subsequently took his son to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The father then filed a formal complaint with the Surat police.
A senior police officer confirmed the arrest and stated that while the boy had sustained bruises, his condition was stable. In a significant step, the police facilitated a public apology from the accused. A video of the woman apologising for her actions was uploaded to official social media platforms. In the clip, she expressed regret, urged others not to behave similarly, and promised not to repeat such a mistake.
