In a disturbing incident in Mohali, a resident of Shri Guru Har Sahai Society in Sector 68 has accused five SUV-borne youths of attempting to molest his sister and trying to run him over. The attack occurred on Friday night when the siblings were returning from the market.
Details of the Attack
Manpreet Singh, the complainant, stated that a white SUV began following him and his sister as they headed home. The occupants allegedly tried to molest his sister. When Manpreet intervened, the assailants attempted to run him over with the vehicle.
The family further alleged that three to four men in the SUV pursued the siblings through the market and later attacked them with sharp weapons near their housing society. Manpreet managed to drive away with his sister, but the SUV continued to chase them. The driver reportedly honked repeatedly and flashed the headlights in an apparent attempt to force them to stop.
Alleged Political Connection
The complainant claimed that the SUV belonged to a Bathinda-based politician and that a gunman was inside the vehicle. A police uniform was also seen hanging behind the seat, raising concerns about potential misuse of authority.
Family's Response and Police Action
When the family went to the suspect's house to complain, they were assaulted. According to the complaint, two relatives who tried to stop the SUV at the society were nearly run over. Local residents gathered after hearing the commotion, prompting the SUV occupants to flee.
Manpreet also noted that the family was carrying cash at the time and feared robbery, which is why they did not stop.
Investigation Underway
The Phase XI SHO, Aman Baidwan, confirmed that a complaint was received and that CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined. Further action will be based on the investigation. As of the latest report, no FIR had been registered.
