Ahmedabad: In the early hours of Sunday, a speeding sport utility vehicle (SUV) jumped a divider and collided with a tree near Usmanpura on Ashram Road, leaving three young men injured. The incident has prompted police to investigate whether the occupants were involved in drunken driving or street racing.
Impact and Injuries
Police reported that the force of the crash was so intense that the front section of the vehicle was completely crushed. The three injured occupants were promptly taken to a hospital by a 108 ambulance service. Their current condition remains unknown.
Recovery of Liquor Bottle
During an inspection of the wrecked SUV, law enforcement officers discovered a liquor bottle near the driver’s seat. This evidence has become a key part of the ongoing investigation.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the five youths, all residents of the Teen Darwaza area, had gone out for a late-night snack drive. At approximately 3 a.m., the driver lost control of the vehicle on the stretch between Usmanpura and Vadaj. The SUV then leaped over the divider and slammed into a tree on the opposite side of the road.
Possible Street Racing
Authorities found another damaged car near the accident site, leading them to suspect that the drivers of the two vehicles may have been racing on the nearly deserted road late at night. CCTV footage from Ashram Road and surrounding intersections is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Investigation Underway
Traffic police officials stated that the liquor bottle recovered from the SUV is now part of the investigation. Samples and other evidence are being analyzed to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Navrangpura police and traffic police have initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the accident.
