Tamil Nadu Minister Nirmalkumar issued a stern warning on Monday, asserting that wrongdoers cannot escape the long arm of the law by resorting to tactics such as stealing hard disks. Speaking at a press conference in Chennai, the minister emphasized that any attempt to destroy evidence would be futile, as digital forensics and backup systems ensure that crucial data remains recoverable.
Minister's Strong Message
Nirmalkumar stated, "Those who think they can evade justice by stealing a few hard disks are gravely mistaken. The government has robust systems in place to retrieve and secure evidence. No one can escape accountability." He further noted that such actions only add to the list of offenses, leading to stricter punishment.
Context of the Warning
The minister's remarks come in the wake of recent incidents where accused individuals attempted to destroy digital evidence by stealing hard drives from government offices. The Tamil Nadu government has been ramping up its cybersecurity measures and digital evidence preservation protocols to counter such threats.
Nirmalkumar also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. "We are committed to ensuring a transparent and just system. Those who break the law will face consequences, no matter how hard they try to cover their tracks," he added.
The minister's statement has been widely discussed, with many lauding his firm stance against corruption and evidence tampering. Legal experts have also pointed out that destroying evidence is a serious offense that can lead to additional charges and enhanced penalties under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
