Pithoragarh: A case has been registered against a 43-year-old government school teacher in Pithoragarh district for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class 10 student and giving her abortion pills to terminate her pregnancy. The incident came to light on Friday when the 16-year-old girl visited a primary health centre with severe stomach pain. Upon examination, doctors discovered she was pregnant.
Doctor's report reveals critical condition
“Her condition was critical due to excessive bleeding,” a doctor at the health centre stated. The girl was immediately provided medical care to stabilize her condition.
Victim's allegations
During an inquiry, the girl alleged that the teacher had sexually assaulted her over a prolonged period. She further stated that upon informing the teacher about her pregnancy, he gave her abortion pills, which worsened her condition. This forced her parents to rush her to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Legal action taken
Station officer Suresh Kamboj confirmed, “An FIR has been registered against the teacher under BNS section 64 (rape) and section 5/6 of the Pocso Act. The matter is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken.” The teacher has not been arrested yet, and the police are conducting further inquiries.
The case highlights the vulnerability of students in educational institutions and the need for stricter safeguards. Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough and the accused will face the full force of the law.
