Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Khuldabad police on Thursday registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested four people in connection with the death of a 54-year-old ZP teacher from Ellora, following allegations that he was assaulted during a late-night police operation.
According to the police, teacher Suresh Rupchand Borse worked at the ZP Central Primary School in Ellora and was also a district office bearer of a teachers’ association. He was declared dead early on Thursday at Government Medical College and Hospital after suffering injuries around midnight on Wednesday.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Borse’s wife, Anita (47), who alleged that her husband was assaulted by individuals accompanying a police team that had come to Ellora in search of a fugitive.
Khuldabad police inspector Prashant Mahajan identified the arrested accused as Ravindra Rakhamaji Aware (34), Omkar Baburao Chaudhary (24) and Balu Vishwanath Damale (42) of Dhondalgaon in Vaijapur taluka, and Sopan Ashok Chothe (27) from Nalgaon. A 17-year-old has also been detained and sent to a juvenile home after being produced before the Child Welfare Committee.
According to the complaint, Borse had stepped out around 11pm with his nephew (12) to buy ice cream for guests and medicines. Around midnight, the family heard a commotion outside and the nephew rushed back claiming that Borse was being beaten and forcibly taken away.
The police said when Anita and her daughters reached the spot, they saw a black car without a number plate and a white car bearing a police sign. She told the police that Borse, inside the black car, was held down by two individuals. "Anita stated in her complaint that when confronted, a man in plain clothes claimed that he was with police and accused Borse of interfering with work," the police said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Ambadas Danve visited the family of the victim.
