Techie arrested for abetment to suicide of fiancée in Kadapa

A Bengaluru-based software engineer, Shahjahan, along with his parents, has been arrested by the Chinna Chowk police in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh in connection with the suicide of his fiancée, Rehana. The incident occurred on April 21, when Rehana, a resident of Patel Road locality in Kadapa, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling of her home. According to police officials, Rehana and Shahjahan got engaged in February of this year, with their wedding scheduled for August. Initially, the couple shared a good rapport and frequently communicated over the phone. However, approximately three weeks before the tragic event, Shahjahan's demeanor reportedly changed, and he began pressuring Rehana to call off the marriage.

Details of the Case

Rehana's father, Nadendla Raja, stated that Shahjahan informed his daughter that he was already involved with four other women and did not harbor any romantic feelings for her. He further claimed that he had only agreed to the wedding under pressure from his parents. This revelation caused severe emotional distress to Rehana, leading her to slip into depression. Unable to cope with the situation, she took the extreme step of ending her life. In a 12-page suicide note she left behind, Rehana detailed the harassment she endured at the hands of Shahjahan and explained how she was driven to suicide.

Legal Action and Arrests

Based on a formal complaint lodged by Nadendla Raja, the police registered a case under charges of abetment to suicide. The accused, Shahjahan, along with his parents M Veeraiah and M Waheeda, were arrested from their residence in Proddatur. Following their arrest, the trio was produced before the local court, which remanded them to judicial custody. The Chinna Chowk Sub-Inspector, Prathap Reddy, confirmed the arrests and stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details.
