The body of a 16-year-old girl, who had been missing from Annadhanapatty in Salem since Monday, was recovered from a pond in Seeragapady on Wednesday evening. Police are investigating whether she was raped and murdered before her body was dumped in the pond.
The teenager had left her residence on May 25 and failed to return, prompting her relatives to initiate a search. When their efforts proved futile, the family lodged a complaint at the Annadhanapatty police station. "We registered a case and began searching for the missing girl in multiple locations," a police officer stated.
On Wednesday evening, local residents discovered a girl's body floating in the pond and immediately alerted the authorities. Attayampatty police recovered the remains and transported them to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination.
Both Attayampatty and Annadhanapatty police are conducting a multi-angle investigation, exploring all possibilities including foul play. The case has sparked concern in the community as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
