Patna: A viral video showing two young girls allegedly attempting to rob a jewellery shop in Patna’s Digha area has triggered widespread discussion online. Police revealed that the duo had surveyed the shop for several days before carrying out the unusual crime.

Incident Details

The incident took place on Friday evening at a jewellery shop near Gate No. 81, close to Kurji Bridge. According to police, the two girls, one of them a minor, entered the shop wearing face masks and allegedly tried to rob it by spraying pepper spray on the owner.

Their plan failed when the jeweller raised an alarm despite the attack and managed to confine the suspects inside the premises. Locals and passers-by rushed to the spot and caught one of the girls while the other fled before police arrived.

Police Action

A special police team later detained the second accused. SDPO (law and order II) Divyanjali Jaiswal said legal action had been initiated against both. “Legal proceedings have been initiated against both in accordance with the law. A pepper spray canister, a small knife, and a cellphone were recovered from their possession. The seized items have been taken into custody as evidence.”

Background of the Accused

Digha SHO Avnish Kumar said both accused were friends from the local area. “They completed their intermediate this year. For the last 2-3 days, they were doing recce outside the shop and then made their attempt to loot. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they want money and made plan to loot the jewellery shop. They did not disclose why they need the money. Both of them had clean record,” he said.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are investigating whether the two had any links to similar offences.
