Thane Police Dismantles Major Narcotics Network in High-Value Bust
In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Thane Crime Branch has successfully busted a high-value narcotics racket, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of mephedrone (MD) valued at nearly Rs 4.1 crore. This decisive action is part of a special drive initiated on the directives of Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre, aimed at intensifying efforts to crack down on narcotics operations across the area.
Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Swift Arrests
The operation was set into motion following specific intelligence received by a constable, prompting immediate verification and strategic planning by the Anti-Narcotics Cell team. Acting on this verified input, officers laid a trap and, on March 23 around 7:10 pm, intercepted two suspects near the MTNL office in Charai, Thane. The accused were identified as Sohel Dilip Khan, a 26-year-old resident of Kopri, and Rohit Vilas Sitapure, a 21-year-old from Ulhasnagar.
During the interception, police recovered substantial quantities of mephedrone from the suspects. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Amar Singh Jadhav, Khan was found carrying 1.56 kg of the synthetic drug, while Sitapure had 1.6 kg in his possession. The swift action prevented the potential distribution of these narcotics, highlighting the effectiveness of the intelligence-driven approach.
Backward Link Probe Uncovers Third Accused
Following the initial arrests, investigators conducted a thorough backward link probe to trace the source and broader network behind the contraband. This investigative effort led to the arrest of a third accused, Rajesh Hadawale, a 23-year-old also from Kopri. Police revealed that the trio was actively involved in the illegal possession and intended distribution of a total of 2.6 kg of mephedrone, as confirmed by DCP Jadhav.
The coordinated efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Cell have not only disrupted this specific racket but also provided crucial leads into the larger supply chain operating in the region. A case has been officially registered at the Naupada Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, ensuring legal proceedings are set in motion.

All three accused have been remanded to police custody, allowing authorities to conduct further interrogations and gather additional evidence. The ongoing investigations are focused on uncovering the extensive supply chain and identifying any other individuals or networks involved in this illicit trade.
