In a dramatic incident highlighting a security lapse, an accused man managed to flee from police custody inside the Hisar district court complex on Friday afternoon. The escape has triggered a large-scale search operation by the Haryana police.
The Great Escape: How It Happened
The incident occurred around 3 pm on Friday when personnel from the Barwala police station had produced the accused, identified as Vishal, a resident of Gabipur village, before the court. The production was related to a theft case registered against him.
According to police sources, Vishal seized an opportunity while standing outside the courtroom. Instead of making a dash for the heavily guarded main gates, he chose a more audacious route. First, he jumped from a height of approximately 10 feet. Then, in a swift move, he scaled the district court's boundary wall, which is nearly 12 feet high.
This calculated move allowed him to bypass the security at the three court gates, where armed guards were deployed, and even a PCR team at the main entrance. He landed in a nearby public parking area and swiftly fled towards Sector 15 before the police personnel could react and give chase.
Police Response and Investigation Hurdles
Following the escape, police teams from multiple units, including the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and local police, were immediately alerted and launched a combing operation to trace the fugitive.
However, the investigation hit an early snag. Police sought CCTV footage from the public parking area where Vishal was last seen. The parking operator, however, reportedly informed them that the camera wiring was damaged and the surveillance system was non-functional at the time, leaving a crucial blind spot in the trail.
The matter has been reported to a senior police officer, and the investigation has now been handed over to CIA-1. Intense efforts are currently underway to trace and re-arrest the accused.
Background of the Case
Vishal was booked in a theft case registered at the Barwala police station on December 18. The complaint was filed by Surendra Kumar, a resident of Barwala Grain Market.
In his complaint, Surendra Kumar stated that electrical wiring worth several bundles was stolen from his under-construction shop located on Agroha Road. He alleged that Vishal, who had previously worked at the construction site two to three months ago, was involved in the theft. This prior familiarity with the site and possibly the local area may have factored into his escape plan.
The incident raises serious questions about security protocols within the court premises, especially when accused individuals are being transported or produced. Despite visible security deployment, the accused identified and exploited a vulnerability, leading to his successful, albeit temporary, flight from the law.
