Thief shot after snatching police pistol in Chandauli

A dramatic sequence of events unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district, where a theft and murder accused was apprehended after being shot in the leg. The incident occurred following a brazen attempt to escape police custody by snatching an officer's service weapon.

Daring Escape Attempt Turns Violent

According to Chandauli's Sadar CO, Devendra Kumar, the accused, identified as Nohar Musahar, was being transported to court by Saiyedraja police on Tuesday evening. As the police vehicle passed near the Bharat Mala project National Highway service road, Musahar made a sudden move. He managed to snatch the service pistol from Sub-Inspector Ram Kumar Dubey and fled the scene.

Authorities immediately launched a major response. Upon receiving the alert, additional police forces from both Chandauli and Saiyedraja police stations rushed to the location and initiated an intensive combing operation to track down the armed fugitive.

Police Retaliation Leads to Arrest

The search concluded with a confrontation. CO Devendra Kumar stated that when police teams surrounded Musahar at a distance, the accused opened fire on them. In the ensuing exchange, police retaliatory fire hit Musahar in the leg, incapacitating him. The injured accused was swiftly taken into custody and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. This arrest comes just a day after the same individual was reportedly caught by a youth in Chandauli, despite having suffered a bullet injury on Monday night.

Separate Incident: Cattle Smugglers Nabbed in Mirzapur

In a related crackdown on crime in the region, Mirzapur police were involved in two separate encounters on the same day. The operations targeted individuals involved in illegal cattle smuggling. According to reports, two cattle smugglers were arrested after they sustained bullet injuries in their legs while attempting to cross the border with livestock. Both individuals were apprehended following these police actions.

These back-to-back incidents in Chandauli and Mirzapur highlight ongoing police efforts to combat serious crimes like armed robbery, murder, and cattle smuggling in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The use of force, resulting in leg injuries to the suspects, underscores the perilous situations law enforcement officers often face during such operations.
