Third Arrest in Gaya Bullion Trader Loot Case

Gaya: Police arrested one more person in connection with the May 27 loot of jewellery and cash from a bullion trader at Gurua bazaar in Gaya. Two other accused in the case had been arrested earlier after a police encounter on Monday midnight.

The arrested man was identified as Rudal Kumar, a resident of Kajichak village under Sandesh police station area in Bhojpur district. Police also recovered some stolen jewellery from his possession.

According to police, Rudal is a close relative of one of the earlier arrested suspects, Shravan Kumar. On Monday midnight, police had shot Shravan Kumar and Sujeet Chaudhary in their legs after they allegedly opened fire at the police team while trying to escape.

The robbery occurred when five motorcycle-borne criminals looted around Rs 5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth about Rs 40 lakh from Prabhakar Baranwal, who runs a jewellery shop in Gurua bazaar. Baranwal was shot in the right thigh when he tried to resist. He was returning home after closing his shop at the time of the incident.

Senior superintendent of police Sushil Kumar said police have so far recovered 277.543 grams of gold, valued at around Rs 40 lakh.
