In a significant breakthrough, the rural police in Amritsar have apprehended the third and final suspect connected to the brutal murder of Manjit Singh in Dhoolka village. The arrest followed a dramatic encounter near Jethuwal Canal on Tuesday, marking the culmination of an intensive investigation.
Dramatic Encounter Leads to Arrest
Sukhpreet Singh, commonly known as 'Sukh', was captured after exchanging fire with police personnel near the canal area. According to official reports, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the police team when they attempted to intercept him. The officers returned fire in self-defense, resulting in injuries to Sukh.
The incident unfolded when police received confidential information indicating that Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of Ugana village in Patiala district, was active in the region and allegedly planning another criminal activity. Acting swiftly on this tip, the police set up a strategic trap near Jethuwal Canal.
Complete Resolution of Murder Case
With Sukhpreet Singh's arrest, the investigation into Manjit Singh's murder has reached its conclusion with all major suspects now accounted for. The case dates back to November 16 when two unidentified assailants entered Manjit Singh's shop in Dhoolka village and shot him dead.
Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Sandeep Goel confirmed the developments in an official release, stating that the police have successfully dismantled the entire network responsible for the crime. The case was originally registered at Khalchian police station.
Previous Arrests and Fatal Encounter
The investigation had previously led to significant developments in the case. Raja Singh 'Billa', identified as the main accused from Cheema Kalan, was killed in an earlier encounter with police. Another accomplice, Manpreet Singh 'Shammi', had been arrested prior to Tuesday's operation.
Following the encounter, police recovered a 9 mm pistol and three rounds of ammunition from Sukhpreet Singh's possession. The injured suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable.
The successful operation demonstrates the continued efforts of Amritsar rural police in maintaining law and order in the region, particularly in resolving serious crimes through determined investigative work and strategic police action.
