Three Arrested for Stealing Ancient Jain Idols in Vadodara

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in Vadodara apprehended three individuals on Thursday for allegedly stealing centuries-old idols and ornaments from a Jain temple located in the Akota area of the city. The burglary occurred on May 29, when the suspects reportedly broke into the temple and made off with the valuable items. Following the incident, a complaint was registered at the Akota police station.

Arrest and Recovery

Acting on a tip-off, DCB officials intercepted the three suspects near the Golden Chowkdi bypass as they were allegedly attempting to flee to Dahod with the stolen property. The accused have been identified as Vijay Sangada, Dharmesh Mavi, and Sunil Dangi, all residents of Dahod district. During a search of their belongings, law enforcement recovered 540-year-old Jain idols along with the stolen ornaments. Under questioning, the trio reportedly confessed to the theft.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are currently investigating whether the accused were involved in similar offences elsewhere in the state. The recovery of the ancient idols is seen as a significant success for the DCB, which acted swiftly on the intelligence provided. Further details about the case are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
