Three Individuals Arrested in Guwahati for Alleged Assaults on Local Residents
In a series of disturbing incidents, police in Guwahati have apprehended three persons for allegedly assaulting local residents, as confirmed by authorities on Monday. The arrests follow multiple reports of violence over the past few days, with a notable detail emerging: all three arrested individuals are Hindi-speaking people.
First Incident: Late-Night Harassment and Theft Attempt
Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Ankur Jain described the initial case, which occurred on Saturday. According to Jain, Chandan Kumar Mandal from Bihar allegedly harassed two women late at night. "The accused tried to steal the earring of the younger sister," Jain stated. "Immediately the victim called the police helpline and the police left for the location. Meanwhile, when the complainant asked for help from the people nearby, they did not help her and instead asked her to leave the place. The police, meanwhile, got there, identified the accused and arrested him." A case has been registered under sections 307, 62, 126 (2), 351 (2), and 3 (5) of the BNS Act.
Second Incident: Road Rage Escalation in Fancy Bazar
The second altercation took place on Friday in Fancy Bazar, where a four-wheeler collided with a scooter, leading to a physical confrontation. "Kriti Gupta and her brother Pratik Kumar Gupta, who were on the scooter, had an accident and they attacked the vehicle driver, Mominul Islam, and Navanita Das," Jain explained. Police have registered a case at Panbazar Police Station, resulting in the arrest of both Kriti and Pratik Gupta.
Third Incident: Petrol Pump Attack in Paltan Bazar
In a separate event at a petrol pump in Paltan Bazar, a group of employees, all hailing from Bihar, allegedly assaulted a man for filling petrol on his two-wheeler independently after failing to find assistance. Authorities have identified the attackers and requested their appearance before Paltan Bazar Police Station for further investigation.
These incidents highlight ongoing civic issues in Guwahati, with police actively addressing cases under the BNS Act to ensure public safety. The arrests underscore the city's efforts to combat violence and maintain order amidst regional developments.
