Three Arrested in Vasai Quarry Murder, Two Still at Large

The police have arrested the three main accused in the murder of Atmaram Patil (52) at an illegal quarry in Vasai, officials confirmed on Friday. The arrested individuals are a father and his two sons, who are the owners of the quarry.

Details of the Arrests

On the day of the murder, the father, Bhalchandra Patil, was taken into custody. Subsequently, his sons, Pratap and Mahesh, were arrested from different locations. A revenue officer and his driver were also assaulted at the quarry during the incident.

“We are accessing CCTV footage from various locations and have formed teams to apprehend the remaining accused,” said a police official.

Ongoing Investigation

Two accused are still on the run, and the police are working to identify more individuals who may have been involved in the attack. The authorities are examining evidence to build a comprehensive case.

The Incident

Atmaram Patil, the Virar head of the Loktantrik Lok Rajyam Party, was sent to the quarry on Tuesday afternoon to show the site of illegal stone mining to revenue officer Prabhakar Patil. When Atmaram and Prabhakar arrived at the site in the latter’s car, they and the driver were dragged out of the vehicle and assaulted with iron rods, bamboo, and wooden logs. Atmaram was later crushed to death with stones.

Legal Proceedings

The police confirmed that all three arrested men were produced before a court and remanded in police custody until May 19. The investigation continues as authorities seek to bring all perpetrators to justice.
