A police team investigating a complaint of illegal land encroachment in Mathiya village under Shikarpur police station area in West Champaran district was allegedly attacked by villagers on Wednesday, leaving three cops injured.
Attack on Police Team
According to police, sub-inspector Ravishankar Prasad, guard Sandhya Kumari, and Abhishek Kumar were injured in the attack and have been admitted to Narkatiaganj sub-divisional hospital. The police said the team had gone to the village following a complaint lodged by Parvati Devi, a resident of Mathiya. In her complaint, she alleged that some people had illegally encroached upon the pathway in front of her house and had also cut down several trees.
During the inquiry, the police were conducting videography of the site and questioning locals when members of the opposing group—both men and women—arrived armed with sticks and allegedly began misbehaving with the officials. The attackers reportedly snatched the mobile phone of woman guard Sandhya Kumari and assaulted the police personnel. They also pelted stones, resulting in injuries to the officers. In a further act of obstruction, the assailants punctured the police vehicle by hammering nails into its tyres.
Arrests and Investigation
Shikarpur SHO Manoj Kumar Singh said that one accused, Madan Ram, has been arrested in connection with the incident. “A case has been registered against 16 named and 20 unidentified people. Strict action will be taken against those involved, and raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused,” Singh said. The injured officers are receiving medical treatment, and further investigation is ongoing.
