Three Labourers Killed, Seven Injured in Dense Fog Accident on Purvanchal Expressway

Three labourers lost their lives and seven others sustained serious injuries in a devastating accident on the Purvanchal Expressway early Saturday morning. Dense fog near Sultanpur caused a truck to ram into a pickup vehicle, triggering a horrific chain of events.

The Initial Collision

The pickup was carrying fourteen workers from Rae Bareli to Azamgarh when the tragedy struck. In the thick fog, a truck crashed into their vehicle. The impact forced the pickup to hit the median crash barrier and overturn completely.

The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving behind chaos and injured victims.

Casualties and Emergency Response

Emergency services rushed the injured workers to a local health facility. Doctors declared two labourers dead at the initial treatment center:

  • Ajay Kumar, 30 years old
  • Kishan Pal, 30 years old

Medical personnel referred the remaining injured victims to Ambedkar Nagar District Hospital for advanced care. Tragically, a third labourer succumbed to his injuries during treatment:

  • Rajoli, 35 years old

The seven seriously injured labourers were identified as:

  1. Ashok (40)
  2. Naresh Pasi (45)
  3. Ram Prasad (40)
  4. Vinod (40)
  5. Dilip (35)
  6. Rajesh (40)
  7. Raju (30)

All injured victims received first aid at Dostpur Community Health Center before being transferred to Ambedkar Nagar district hospital due to the severity of their injuries.

Second Accident During Rescue Operations

As rescue teams worked at the accident site, another collision occurred in the same location. Dense fog continued to reduce visibility dangerously.

A second pickup vehicle carrying poultry hit a safety cone placed at the original accident site. The vehicle then rammed into the already damaged pickup from the first collision.

This second pickup was traveling from Sultanpur towards Bihar. The driver, identified as Salman from Amethi district, sustained injuries in this secondary accident. He was first taken to a local health facility before doctors referred him to Akbarpur district hospital for further treatment.

Official Response and Investigation

District programme manager Ashish Kumar Singh and district in-charge Manoj Kumar Singh coordinated the emergency response. They utilized both 102 and 108 ambulance services to manage the crisis effectively.

Dostpur inspector Aniruddh Singh provided details about the ongoing investigation. "The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination," he stated. "We have informed their families about this tragic incident."

The inspector confirmed that authorities are pursuing legal action. "Further legal proceedings will begin once we receive a formal complaint," he explained. "Police are actively working to trace the absconding truck driver from the initial collision."

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of driving in dense fog conditions, particularly on high-speed expressways. The chain collision demonstrates how reduced visibility can lead to multiple accidents in quick succession, overwhelming emergency response systems.
