In a swift police action, three individuals have been apprehended for allegedly robbing a senior citizen of her gold jewellery and cash in the Surathkal area of Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district. The crime unfolded on the afternoon of May 12, 2024, in the Kuthar village under the jurisdiction of the Surathkal police station. According to the police complaint, the elderly victim was alone at her home when the accused arrived at her doorstep. Posing as potential buyers interested in purchasing a site, they engaged her in conversation.
Seizing the opportunity when she was distracted, one of the men allegedly snatched the gold chain and 'kanthibala' (a type of mangalsutra) she was wearing. The stolen ornaments have an estimated value of Rs 2.5 lakh. The trio also made off with Rs 15,000 in cash from the house before fleeing the scene, leaving the woman traumatised.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Acting on the victim's complaint, a special police team led by Inspector Shashidhar Pujar launched an intensive investigation. Utilizing technical surveillance and local intelligence, the officers were able to track down and arrest the suspects within a short period.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rakshith (28), Nithin (26), and Dhanush (24). All three are residents of the Mulki area. The police successfully recovered the stolen gold ornaments from the accused, a significant breakthrough that will help return the precious items to the victim.
