Three Killed, Five Critically Injured in Hazaribag Truck Accident

A devastating road accident occurred near Ghato More on National Highway 33 in Hazaribag district on Saturday, resulting in three fatalities and five individuals sustaining critical injuries. The incident involved a lime-laden truck with a Rajasthan registration plate, which allegedly suffered a catastrophic brake failure, leading to a chain collision with multiple vehicles and roadside establishments.

Sequence of the Tragic Collision

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the truck was traveling from the Hazaribag side when it suddenly lost control. The vehicle first collided with an auto-rickshaw, then struck a bus, and subsequently hit a parked mini-van. In its final trajectory, the truck veered off the road and crashed into several fruit and paan kiosks lining the highway.

The impact proved fatal for three individuals:

  • Uday Singh, a 27-year-old fruit vendor and resident of Nimadih village in Charhi, died instantly at the scene.
  • Aditya Singh (58) and Ashish Singh (45), siblings who were standing near their motorcycle by the roadside, sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to the Mandu community health centre but succumbed to their wounds during treatment.

Five additional injured persons were referred to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care due to the severity of their conditions.

Immediate Aftermath and Traffic Disruption

The accident caused significant traffic congestion at Charhi Chowk, disrupting normal vehicular movement for hours. Police authorities promptly responded by diverting vehicles to the opposite lane to restore traffic flow. "Two cranes were pressed into service, and the truck was finally cleared from the highway after several hours," stated a police officer involved in the operation.

Charhi police station officer-in-charge Kundan Kant Vimal confirmed that rescue operations were launched immediately after receiving information about the incident. "The exact cause of the accident is being investigated. The driver has been detained," he said, noting that preliminary investigations point toward brake failure as the likely cause.

Political Response and Safety Concerns

Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal expressed profound grief over the tragic accident and highlighted the recurring nature of such incidents at Ghato More. "More than two dozen people have lost their lives at the spot in the last few years. There is an urgent need for construction of an overbridge, and relocation of the tempo stand near the spot," he emphasized.

Jaiswal further committed to addressing the issue with relevant departments, stating, "I will take up the matter with the departments concerned for concrete measures to prevent future accidents." This statement underscores growing concerns about road safety infrastructure at this particular location on NH-33.

The accident has reignited discussions about highway safety measures and the need for improved traffic management systems in accident-prone areas. Authorities continue their investigation while the community mourns the loss of life and prays for the recovery of those injured.
