Three Perish in Devastating Trailer Truck Collision on Banda National Highway

A horrific head-on collision between two trailer trucks on the Banda-Jhansi-Mirzapur National Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district claimed three lives early Thursday morning. The accident, which occurred under the cover of darkness, resulted in both vehicles catching fire, leading to the tragic deaths of the drivers and a helper who were trapped inside.

Details of the Fatal Crash

According to ASP Mavis Tak, the collision took place near the Munderi turn on the highway, primarily attributed to poor visibility due to the dark conditions. The impact was so severe that both trailers immediately ignited into flames. Compounding the tragedy, the doors of both vehicles were locked at the time, preventing the occupants from escaping the inferno.

The victims have been identified as Suresh Pandey (55), the driver of a gravel-laden trailer traveling from Sultanpur, and Suraj Nath (50), the driver of an empty trailer coming from Azamgarh, along with his helper Shani (30). All three individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Survivor's Harrowing Account

In a miraculous escape, Abhishek (23), the helper in Suresh Pandey's trailer, managed to jump out of the burning vehicle. He was subsequently admitted to the district hospital for treatment. In his police statement, Abhishek provided a chilling recount of the moments leading up to the crash.

"We were transporting a load of gravel in our trailer. It was pitch dark, and as we approached the railway crossing, our truck collided with a trailer coming from the opposite direction. The bright headlights of the other vehicle completely blinded our driver, causing us to crash. The impact sparked an immediate fire. I was able to leap out and move to a safe distance, but unfortunately, the driver was trapped inside and could not escape," he stated.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

Upon receiving the alert, fire brigade personnel rushed to the accident site. However, by the time they managed to bring the flames under control, both trailer trucks had been completely charred. The intense fire made rescue efforts extremely challenging, and the bodies were recovered only after the blaze was extinguished.

This tragic incident underscores the critical importance of road safety, especially during nighttime travel on highways. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the collision, with initial reports pointing to visibility issues and possible driver error. The community mourns the loss of lives in this preventable accident, calling for enhanced safety measures on national highways to avert such disasters in the future.
