The Moti Nagar police in Ludhiana have registered a case against three individuals from Maharashtra for allegedly defrauding a local businessman of Rs 52.91 lakh under the guise of supplying imported kidney beans, also known as rajma.
Details of the Fraud
The FIR was lodged after a police investigation into a complaint filed by Shyam Gupta, a resident of Agar Nagar. The accused have been identified as Vikram Shinde, Ranjit Shinde, and Umesh Bapu More, all residents of Maharashtra. They have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint, the businessman entered into an agreement with the suspects for the purchase of Brazilian rajma and pink rajma through their firms. Trusting the agreement, he transferred a total of Rs 52,91,320 to them in multiple transactions.
Non-Delivery and Financial Loss
The complainant alleged that despite receiving the full payment, the suspects neither supplied the agreed consignment nor returned the money. This resulted in a financial loss of over Rs 52 lakh for the businessman. He stated that the deal was based on mutual trust, but the accused failed to honor their commitment.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Sethi Kumar, who is investigating the case, confirmed that the case was registered after verifying the allegations. He said, "We have registered a case based on the complaint and evidence provided. Further investigation is underway to apprehend the accused."
Police Action and Investigation
The police have initiated a probe and are working to trace the suspects. The case highlights the risks associated with business transactions involving large sums of money without proper verification. Authorities urge business owners to exercise caution and verify the credentials of their trading partners before making payments.
The accused face charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust under the BNS. If convicted, they could face imprisonment and fines. The police are also examining bank records and communication details to build a strong case.
