Ramanathapuram: The Ramanathapuram fast-track mahila court on Saturday convicted and sentenced three men to undergo 30 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case pertaining to the gang rape of a woman after assaulting her boyfriend on a beach in Ramanathapuram district in 2022.
Case Details
According to the prosecution, the survivor, a college student, had come to a beach along with her boyfriend in Ramanathapuram district on March 23, 2022. Three youths arrived at the beach carrying weapons. They first assaulted the boyfriend and tied him up, then sexually assaulted the girl. The perpetrators also robbed the gold jewellery from the girl and fled the scene.
Arrest and Investigation
Based on a complaint lodged by the boyfriend, the police registered a case and arrested M Padma Eswaran, S Dineshkumar, and D Ajithkumar. Subsequently, the police also arrested Padma Eswaran's mother, Villammal, who was found in possession of the stolen jewellery. After completing the investigation, the police filed a final report before the court.
Court Verdict
Mahila court judge K Kavitha convicted and sentenced the three accused to undergo 30 years of imprisonment. Additionally, the judge convicted and sentenced Villammal to undergo two years of imprisonment for her role in possessing the stolen property.
