Tirunelveli Police Launch Major Crackdown on Inflammatory Social Media Activity
In a decisive move to maintain public order, the Tirunelveli district police have taken stringent legal action against individuals accused of using social media platforms to incite violence and disrupt communal harmony. Authorities have registered a total of 11 cases across various police stations and apprehended four people, including two juveniles, for their alleged involvement in circulating provocative online content.
Massive Enforcement Action Following District Unrest
The police crackdown comes in response to heightened sensitivity in the district, particularly after recent unrest in the Nanguneri area. Law enforcement officials launched a comprehensive investigation into social media activity, targeting posts that spread caste-based hatred and promote communal discord. This proactive approach aims to prevent further escalation of tensions and ensure public safety.
According to police reports, the enforcement action has already led to the apprehension of two adults: Muthukumar, aged 27, and Alexander, aged 63. Additionally, two juveniles were taken into custody in connection with the inflammatory posts. The police have emphasized that these individuals were actively involved in creating and sharing content designed to disturb public peace.
District Police Issue Stern Warning Against Digital Provocation
District Superintendent of Police V Prassanna Kumar has issued a categorical warning that anyone found engaging in unlawful activities on social media will face strict and impartial legal consequences. He stated that the district police are now closely monitoring all social media platforms to identify those posting content that threatens public order.
"No attempt to destabilize the region through digital provocation will be tolerated," Kumar emphasized. The police department has reiterated its commitment to maintaining social harmony and has appealed to the general public to exercise responsibility while using social media.
Public Urged to Refrain from Sharing Provocative Content
In light of these developments, authorities have made a strong appeal to citizens to refrain from sharing or circulating provocative, caste-based, or misleading content that could harm social cohesion. The police have highlighted the importance of digital responsibility in preventing the spread of hatred and violence.
The surge in legal action underscores the growing concern over the misuse of social media to incite violence and disrupt public peace. Tirunelveli police remain vigilant in their efforts to combat such activities and ensure that the district remains safe and harmonious for all residents.
