Puri: Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Sushanta Ghosh, who was facing extortion charges in West Bengal, was arrested in Puri district on Wednesday. Ghosh, a Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor, was apprehended by a team from Kolkata's Anandapur police station from a hotel in Pipili, where he was allegedly staying to evade arrest.
Operation Details
Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh confirmed that the operation was carried out solely by the Bengal police, and local law enforcement was not involved. Police sources revealed that Ghosh had been on the run since the extortion case was registered against him. Last Friday, his driver was arrested in Odisha during a search operation, while Ghosh and his family managed to flee. Subsequently, police tracked him to the Pipili hotel and arrested him on Wednesday.
This arrest marks a significant development in the extortion case pending against the TMC councillor. Further investigations are underway.
