Tragic Drowning of Toddler in Ujjain Pond During Family Picnic
A family picnic in Ujjain turned into a devastating tragedy when a two-and-a-half-year-old girl drowned in Vishnu Sagar pond on Thursday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of unsupervised play near water bodies.
Details of the Heartbreaking Incident
The young victim, identified as Ravneet, daughter of Manmeet from Rajiv Ratna Colony, was visiting Vishnu Sagar Vatika with her mother Shweta and other women from their neighborhood. While the adults were engaged in conversation, the children played nearby in what was supposed to be a joyful outing.
The disappearance occurred suddenly when Shweta looked up to check on the children and discovered her daughter was missing. An immediate search was launched, with bystanders providing conflicting information that initially suggested possible abduction alongside drowning concerns.
Extensive Search and Recovery Operation
Police responded promptly to the scene, bringing specialized resources including a sniffer dog and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel. Authorities examined CCTV footage from the area, which provided crucial evidence of the tragedy.
The surveillance footage revealed that Ravneet had been playing with two other girls before wandering dangerously close to the pond's edge and falling into the water. Despite night-time search efforts by the SDRF team, they were unable to locate the child in the darkness.
On Friday morning, authorities escalated the operation by calling in a team of twelve skilled swimmers led by Jumma, also known as Irfan from Helawadi. This experienced diving team successfully recovered Ravneet's body from a deep section near the bank of Vishnu Sagar pond.

CSP Pushpa Prajapati confirmed the recovery of the child's body on Friday morning with assistance from professional divers. The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of constant supervision when children are near water, regardless of how shallow or familiar the environment may seem.
