Toddler Killed in Chennai Motorcycle Accident Over Dupatta

Chennai: A tragic accident occurred near Thiruporur in Chengalpet district on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and serious injuries to his parents. The incident happened when the mother's dupatta got entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle they were riding.

Victims Identified

The deceased toddler was identified as Visagan, son of Pushparaj (29) and Pavithra (23), residents of Ammanambakkam village near Thirukazhukundram. According to police, the family was travelling from Thirukazhukundram to Thiruporur on a motorcycle, with the child sitting on his mother's lap.

How the Accident Happened

While passing through Manamathi village on the Thirukazhukundram–Thiruporur Road, Pavithra's dupatta got caught in the vehicle's rear wheel. This caused Pushparaj to lose control of the motorcycle, throwing all three occupants onto the road. Visagan sustained severe head injuries.

Passersby alerted the police, and the victims were rushed to the Thiruporur Government Hospital. Doctors declared Visagan dead on arrival. Pushparaj and Pavithra, who suffered severe injuries, were later referred to the Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

Police Investigation Underway

The Thiruporur police have registered a case and sent the child's body for a postmortem examination. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
