Toll Plaza Employee Assaulted in Ujjain After Refusing Free Passage
A toll plaza employee in Ujjain was allegedly assaulted on Sunday by a group of men after he refused to allow their vehicle to pass without paying the required toll fee. The incident occurred on National Highway 52 in the Shajapur area of Ujjain, highlighting tensions over toll collection practices.
Violent Confrontation at Rojwas Toll Plaza
The altercation took place between 11 am and 12 noon at the Rojwas Toll Plaza located on the Shajapur-Maksi road. According to police reports, the occupants of a car arriving from the Maksi side informed the toll employee that they had a message and demanded free passage for their vehicle. When the staffer objected and insisted on payment as per regulations, a heated argument ensued.
The dispute quickly escalated into physical violence, with the accused allegedly assaulting Vinod Singh, a toll plaza worker who is a resident of Bihar. Singh sustained significant injuries to his head and eye during the attack, requiring medical attention at the district hospital.
CCTV Footage Captures the Assault
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, clearly showing seven to eight men violently attacking the toll staffer. The visual evidence has become crucial for police investigations as they work to identify the perpetrators involved in this brazen assault.
Vinod Singh recounted the traumatic experience from his hospital bed: "They arrived in two vehicles and claimed they had a message from the Sarpanch of Tonkkala. We firmly refused to let them pass without paying the toll. After standing there for some time, approximately 8 to 10 people attacked us and then fled the scene."
Police Investigation Underway
Local authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the assault. Police officials confirmed they are utilizing the CCTV footage to identify the accused individuals and gather evidence for potential legal action. The injured employee was reported to be in stable condition following medical treatment.
Other toll plaza employees intervened during the altercation, managing to control the situation temporarily before the attackers fled the premises. This incident raises concerns about the safety of toll collection staff who often face aggression from motorists unwilling to pay mandatory fees.
The assault at Rojwas Toll Plaza underscores the challenges faced by highway authorities in enforcing toll collection policies while ensuring the security of their frontline employees. As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to take stringent measures against those responsible for this violent act.
