Coimbatore Police Implement Major Traffic Restrictions for High-Profile Visits
The Coimbatore City Police have announced comprehensive traffic diversions and stringent security protocols in anticipation of the visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the city on April 18. These measures are designed to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public safety during the high-profile events.
Airport Access Restrictions and Passenger Advisory
In an official press release, the police have detailed specific restrictions at the Coimbatore International Airport. From 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on April 18, no private vehicles, taxis, or call taxis will be permitted to enter the airport premises or drop passengers at the terminal entrance. Passengers with flights scheduled during this critical window are strongly advised to arrive at the airport before 4:00 PM to avoid disruptions. Additionally, a complete ban on vehicle parking, including taxis, will be enforced on the airport premises on both April 17 and 18.
Detailed Traffic Diversion Plans for Heavy and Light Vehicles
The police have outlined precise diversion routes to manage the expected increase in traffic and enhance security. Heavy vehicles and buses entering Coimbatore from Salem, Erode, and Tirupur will be diverted at Neelambur. Instead of using the Airport Road, these vehicles must take the bypass via Chinthamanipudur, Ondipudur, and Singanallur to access the city. For buses and heavy vehicles exiting via Avinashi Road, a mandatory U-turn at Lakshmi Mills Junction is required, followed by a route through Puliyakulam, Ramanathapuram, and Singanallur to reach the Salem-Kochi National Highway.
Small vehicles, or light motor vehicles (LMVs), coming from Neelambur can turn at Thottipalayam Pirivu and proceed through Kalapatti Four Roads and Vilankurichi to enter Coimbatore. Outbound LMVs on Avinashi Road should take a U-turn at Tidel Park Junction and use Kamarajar Road and Singanallur Road to reach their destinations. A total ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the city limits will be in effect from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on April 18.
Security Protocols and Public Cooperation
These traffic diversions are part of a broader security strategy to facilitate the safe movement of the dignitaries and minimize inconvenience to residents and commuters. The police urge the public to plan their travel accordingly, adhere to the announced routes, and cooperate with law enforcement personnel on the ground. Real-time updates may be available through official channels to assist with navigation during this period.
The visits of Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Stalin, and Home Minister Shah are significant events for Coimbatore, and these proactive measures aim to balance security needs with everyday mobility. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and adjust their schedules to accommodate the temporary changes.
