Tribal Woman Axed to Death in Palghar Over Black Magic

A tragic incident unfolded in Palghar district where a 60-year-old tribal woman lost her life and her husband sustained serious injuries after a neighbor allegedly attacked them with an axe. The attack was driven by suspicion that the elderly couple had performed ‘black magic’ on the attacker’s wife, according to police reports on Thursday.

Details of the Incident

The accused, identified as 25-year-old Vilas Nakoda, later attempted suicide by consuming rat poison and is currently in critical condition at a hospital. Inspector Kiran Pawar of the Dahanu police station provided details about the case. The attacker’s wife had frequently fallen ill and eventually died in a village within the district. Nakoda harbored suspicions that his neighbors, Suresh Harji Barkud and his wife Gulab, were responsible for her death through black magic.

The Attack and Aftermath

Acting on these suspicions, Nakoda attacked the elderly couple with an axe, inflicting severe injuries. Both victims were rushed to a specialized medical facility, where the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. Her husband remains hospitalized with serious wounds.
