Trichy Home Invasion: Two Men Rob Elderly Woman and Assault Farmer
In a shocking incident that has rattled the local community, two unidentified men broke into a farmer's residence near Edamalaipattipudur in Trichy during the early hours of Wednesday. The intruders targeted an 86-year-old woman, snatching her gold jewellery before assaulting the homeowner and making a swift escape.
Details of the Nighttime Robbery
The complainant, identified as 57-year-old S Lourdusamy, resides at Padugai near Edamalaipattipudur. According to police reports, the suspects entered the house under the cover of darkness and proceeded directly to the room where Lourdusamy's mother-in-law, Rathiammal, was sleeping. The men allegedly attempted to remove gold chains from her neck while she was asleep, but their actions woke the elderly woman.
Upon waking and realizing the danger, Rathiammal raised an alarm, prompting Lourdusamy and his son-in-law to rush to her aid. However, the suspects turned violent, assaulting Lourdusamy before fleeing the scene. The quick escape prevented their capture at the time of the incident.
Stolen Property and Police Investigation
Police confirmed that the thieves made off with two gold chains weighing approximately nine sovereigns, with an estimated value of around ₹90,000. Based on Lourdusamy's complaint, the Edamalaipattipudur police have registered a formal case under Sections 331(4) and 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to trespass and robbery.
Authorities have launched an intensive search operation to trace and apprehend the accused. The investigation is ongoing, with police collecting evidence and pursuing leads to identify the perpetrators of this brazen crime.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
This incident has raised significant safety concerns among residents in the Trichy region, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly. The audacious nature of the robbery—targeting a sleeping elderly woman in her own home—has underscored the need for heightened security measures in residential areas.
Local authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The case highlights the importance of community awareness and cooperation with law enforcement to prevent similar crimes in the future.
