Trichy Police Detain Seven Minors in Assault Case
Police in Trichy detained a group of seven boys, all under 18 years of age, on Friday. They assaulted another boy and threatened him with a billhook, commonly known as an aruval.
Incident Details at Ashok Ground
The assault occurred at Ashok Ground in Senthanneerpuram, Trichy. It happened on Thursday around 5 pm. The victim, Mahesh (name changed), was playing with friends when the accused approached them.
A 24-year-old man named A Ansari Raja from Sangiliyandapuram accompanied the minor boys. Sources indicate some of the accused worked as daily wage labourers. They were allegedly under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
Sequence of Events Leading to Assault
The accused group misbehaved with Mahesh and his friends. When Mahesh objected, they responded with abuse and physical assault. They brandished a billhook and threatened Mahesh with serious consequences. After the threats, they left the ground.
Police Action and Legal Charges
The Golden Rock police registered a case on Friday afternoon. They acted on a complaint filed by the victim's father, M Sekar. Police launched a search operation and apprehended Raja along with the seven minor boys the same day.
Authorities charged the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include sections 189 (2), 191 (3), 296b, 115 (2), and 351 (3). These cover offences like unlawful assembly, rioting with deadly weapons, abuse, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.
Legal Proceedings and Custody
Police produced the seven boys before members of the Juvenile Justice Board. Officials later handed them over to their parents. Authorities produced Raja before a magistrate. The court sent him to Trichy Central Prison for judicial custody.
