PM Modi pays tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a signed article published in newspapers on the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, said the revocation of Article 370 is the most fitting tribute to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder. Modi wrote that Mookerjee always put "India first and Indian values first" by building institutions and nurturing systems that defied the conventional mindset of his time.
Article 370 revocation as tribute
The Prime Minister highlighted that the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, aligns with Mookerjee's vision of a unified India. Mookerjee had opposed the special status and had been arrested in 1953 for entering Jammu and Kashmir without a permit, dying under mysterious circumstances in custody.
Modi's praise for Mookerjee's legacy
Modi noted that Mookerjee's contributions to nation-building are often overlooked but remain crucial. He emphasized that Mookerjee's approach to governance was based on national interest and cultural pride, which continues to inspire the current government's policies.
