Flash Floods and Landslides Hit Kishtwar and Doda

Heavy rains lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on July 6, 2026, triggering flash floods and landslides in Kishtwar and Doda districts. The downpour caused significant damage, burying several vehicles and leading to the closure of a major road, according to local officials.

In Kishtwar, the sudden rise in water levels in local streams resulted in flash floods that swept away vehicles and damaged property. Visuals from the area showed cars and trucks partially submerged or buried under debris. The administration has deployed rescue teams to assess the situation and assist affected residents.

Key Road Shut, Rescue Operations Underway

The Kishtwar-Doda road, a vital link connecting the two districts, was shut due to landslides and debris accumulation. Traffic movement has been suspended until further clearance. Officials said that heavy machinery has been deployed to clear the road, but efforts are hampered by continuous rainfall.

In Doda, landslides blocked several village roads, isolating communities. No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities are on high alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours.

Government Response and Safety Measures

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar said, “We are closely monitoring the situation. Rescue teams have been mobilized, and people in low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations.” Relief camps are being set up to accommodate those displaced by the floods.

According to the IMD, the region received over 100 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to the flash floods. The administration has urged people to avoid venturing near rivers and streams.
