Chennai: Political commentator Trichy Surya Siva and YouTuber Mukthar, who were arrested in connection with a derogatory YouTube programme targeting a woman BJP functionary, have been detained under the Goondas Act.
Background of the Case
The BJP worker filed a complaint with the Chennai city commissioner of police on June 3, alleging that a discussion broadcast on the “My India 24x7” YouTube channel tarnished her reputation and caused distress to her family during her postpartum period.
Investigation and Arrests
Police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the content published on the channel. Trichy Surya, 33, was arrested on June 4, while Mukthar was located in Mandya and arrested later. Both have been remanded in judicial custody.
Goondas Act Invoked
On Tuesday, the Chennai city police invoked the Goondas Act against the duo, intensifying legal action.
