Trinamool Councillor's House Burgled in Kolkata

A Trinamool Congress councillor in Salt Lake, Alo Dutta, who had reportedly gone into hiding fearing post-poll violence, found her house burgled earlier this week. The incident prompted her to return and file a complaint on Thursday.

Police stated that Dutta, the councillor of Bidhannagar Ward 38, along with her husband Nirmal, a former councillor and Trinamool functionary, had fled their Duttabad residence a day after the election results were announced. Dutta informed authorities that they traveled to Vellore for Nirmal's kidney treatment and upon returning, stayed at their ancestral home in Hooghly.

“One of our neighbors called to inform us that our house in Duttabad was burgled between Monday and Tuesday. The burglars entered by cutting the grille at the rear and decamped with valuables,” she told police. According to the complaint, stolen items included two gold chains, a pair of earrings, rings, approximately Rs 50,000 in cash, and a briefcase containing her husband's medicines. The accused also damaged the CCTV cameras at the residence.

Nirmal, who was arrested in April for allegedly threatening voters, claimed that his family faced attacks after the poll results and were forced to stay away from their Duttabad home. They further alleged that goons backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were responsible for the burglary. However, the BJP denied the allegation.
