Tragic Truck Accident Claims Life of Mumbai Logistics Employee Near Airport

A devastating incident unfolded near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on Monday night, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old logistics company employee. The victim, identified as Ganesh Lotankar, was struck by a truck, leading to fatal injuries. Sahar police have swiftly taken action, booking the unidentified truck driver for causing death due to negligence and rash driving under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Details of the Fatal Incident

Ganesh Lotankar, a resident of Nalasopara East, had been a dedicated employee at Gordon Woodroof Logistics Limited, located at the Air Cargo Complex, for an impressive 20 years. On the evening of the accident, he was performing his routine duties alongside his colleague, Datta Dhamale. At approximately 5:30 pm, both arrived at the General Cargo area of the Sahar Air Cargo Complex to handle documentation tasks.

Due to pending paperwork for pharmaceutical cargo, Lotankar proceeded to the Pharma Zone to clear the necessary documents. Merely five minutes later, security personnel alerted Dhamale that his colleague had been involved in a serious accident. Dhamale rushed to the scene, where he found Lotankar receiving emergency medical attention from a doctor. Witnesses at the location reported that a red Eicher company truck had struck Lotankar, crushing his waist in the impact.

Police Investigation and Legal Actions

The incident was reported to Lotankar's family when his brother, Santosh, received a distressing call from their elder brother, Harish, at 8:30 pm, informing him of the accident. Santosh immediately headed to Cooper Hospital, where he was met by Dhamale, who provided a detailed account of the events. Tragically, doctors at Cooper Hospital declared Ganesh Lotankar dead before he could be formally admitted for treatment.

Based on Santosh's formal complaint, the Sahar police registered a case against the truck driver, citing charges of death due to rash driving. A police officer from the Sahar police station confirmed that efforts are underway to locate and arrest the driver, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing witness statements and evidence to ensure justice is served.

Community and Family Impact

Ganesh Lotankar is survived by his wife and son, leaving behind a grieving family and a community shocked by the sudden loss. His two-decade-long tenure at the logistics company highlights his commitment and stability in the workforce, making the incident all the more poignant. The accident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety near busy industrial and airport zones in Mumbai, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by negligent driving, particularly in high-traffic areas. As the legal process moves forward, the focus remains on supporting the bereaved family and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
