Twisha Sharma Dowry Death Case: Family Alleges Lapses, Demands Second Post-Mortem
Twisha Sharma Case: Family Seeks Second Post-Mortem at AIIMS Delhi

The dowry death case of Twisha Sharma has taken a significant turn as the victim's family has leveled serious allegations against the investigative agencies, claiming lapses in the probe and demanding a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi. The family, along with their lawyer advocate Ankur Pandey, has accused the authorities of mishandling the investigation and attempting to influence medical procedures at AIIMS Bhopal.

Family Accuses Investigative Agencies of Mishandling

Advocate Pandey alleged that the authorities were trying to contaminate both the post-mortem process and the overall investigation. He insisted that a fresh examination should be conducted in Delhi to ensure transparency. The incident occurred on May 12, and since then, the investigative agencies have mishandled this case, according to Pandey. He stated, 'They try to influence things at AIIMS Bhopal. They are trying every possible way to contaminate the procedure of AIIMS and the investigation only with the intention to weaken the case and so that they would benefit from it later.'

Procedural Issues and Evidence Concerns

Pandey further argued that key procedural issues had weakened the evidentiary chain. He pointed out delays in the handling of the ligature material and preservation of the body. Following the incident on May 12, a post-mortem was conducted on May 13, but the ligature was not received; AIIMS itself made this claim. 'Why didn't AIIMS ask for the ligature? The victim's family is being pressured to cremate the body. If it had been done, then from what would the ligature be matched which was submitted days after the incident? The situation of the body is worsening every single day. AIIMS has also said that they do not have such facilities to preserve the body for such a long time,' he added.

Request for Second Post-Mortem at AIIMS Delhi

Pandey emphasized that due to the influence wielded by the accused, circumstances of this nature have arisen. That is precisely why the family has requested that the re-examination be conducted at AIIMS Delhi. 'We believe that all the requisite facilities are available there to ensure the body is properly preserved,' he said. The family's request was aimed at clarifying forensic findings, especially any injury patterns on the body. 'Since only medical experts can provide this insight, our sole objective is to uncover the truth: regarding any marks or injuries found on the body whether they were inflicted prior to death, how they were caused, and what their exact nature is--we require a detailed description of all these aspects from AIIMS Delhi,' he stated.

Discrepancy in Height Records

Pandey also raised concerns over what he described as discrepancies in Twisha Sharma's recorded height, comparing medical records with her modeling profile. 'Regarding her height, she had worked in modeling, and she herself stated and her profile details confirm that her height is approximately 172 to 173 centimeters. However, AIIMS appears to be recording it as 161 centimeters. This discrepancy came to light when comparisons were made based on these records. Why is such a basic observation being recorded incorrectly in this case? Because, somewhere along the line, the investigation is being steered in a different direction,' the lawyer added.

Police Commissioner's Response

Bhopal police commissioner Sanjay Kumar said the police had no objection to a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi but stressed that the decision rests with the court. 'The family members of the deceased came to me and submitted an application. I told them police have no objection to another post-mortem,' Kumar told PTI. He added that the request has been attached to the case diary. 'Police are not averse to it. If a second post-mortem takes place, we have no objection. We have carried out our investigation and examined the evidence. These things take some time,' the police chief said.

Husband Absconding

Kumar also confirmed that teams have been formed to trace and arrest the deceased's husband, Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding. He added that the couple had married in December 2025. A local court has already summoned the police case diary after the family moved a plea seeking a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi. The final decision on the request now rests with the judiciary.
