In Amravati, two individuals have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 35-year-old woman under the pretense of helping her mend a broken marriage alliance. The Nandgaon Peth police registered a case and apprehended the suspects, identified as Riyazoddin (45) and Wasim (32).
Background of the Incident
The woman had been engaged to a man who blocked her mobile number about a year ago. Recently, she came into contact with Riyazoddin, who assured her that a special puja performed by his acquaintance Wasim could restore her broken engagement.
Details of the Assault
According to police, Riyazoddin sent Wasim to the woman's residence under the guise of performing a ritual. Wasim extorted Rs 30,000 from her. Meanwhile, Riyazoddin began visiting the woman's home frequently and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Legal Action
Acting on the woman's complaint, the police registered a rape case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Anti-Superstition Act. Both men are currently in custody.
