Two Suspects Apprehended in Attempted Theft at NRI Property in Phagwara
In a swift response to a citizen's complaint, the Phagwara police have arrested two individuals in connection with an attempted theft at a house owned by a non-resident Indian (NRI). The incident, which unfolded in the Khalwara Gate area of Phagwara, Punjab, highlights the vigilance of local residents and the prompt action of law enforcement.
Details of the Incident
The complainant, Sodhi Singh, who serves as the caretaker for the property of NRI Gurmeet Singh residing in England, reported the crime. According to police statements, Sodhi Singh was working in nearby agricultural fields when he heard suspicious noises emanating from inside the locked house. Acting quickly, he, along with his son Amritpal Singh, rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered two youths inside the premises attempting to flee after allegedly stealing items. The accused were reportedly carrying a sack filled with broken aluminium pieces, which they were trying to remove by scaling the boundary wall. The caretaker and his son managed to apprehend both suspects on the spot before alerting the authorities.
Police Action and Investigation
Police officials reached the location promptly and took the accused into custody, along with the recovered stolen material. The suspects have been identified as Suraj Paswan, originally from Amritsar and currently residing in Basant Nagar, Phagwara, and Sarab, a resident of Hadiabad near Kashi Atta Chakki in Phagwara.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma confirmed that a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are working to ascertain if the accused were involved in other similar incidents. Notably, six cases have already been registered against the suspects in Ambala and Panchkula, with additional complaints filed in Yamunanagar, indicating a potential pattern of criminal activity.
The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and properties, particularly those belonging to NRIs who may be vulnerable to such crimes. This arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement in preventing theft and maintaining security in residential areas.
