Police in Kurukshetra have cracked a murder case linked to a fraudulent overseas job promise, leading to the arrest of two individuals from Ambala district. The victim, identified as Rajnikant from Telangana, was allegedly killed following a dispute over a failed employment deal in Russia.
Arrests and Court Proceedings
The district police made a breakthrough on Friday, arresting Harman Singh and Ramswaroop alias Happy, both residents of Chourmastpur village in Ambala. The accused were presented before the district court in Kurukshetra on the same day. The court has granted the police a four-day remand for further interrogation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Nirmal Singh from Pehowa stated that the investigation was conducted under the guidance of Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal. The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-I successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspects.
How the Crime Unfolded
The grim discovery was made on January 6. Kulwant Singh, a local resident of Manderi village, alerted the authorities after he spotted a young man's body lying in a field near the village gurdwara around 10 am. Police swiftly arrived at the scene, initiated an investigation, and sent the body for post-mortem before handing it over to the family.
Based on the initial statement, a formal case was registered at the Ismailabad police station. Given the severity of the crime, the probe was transferred to the specialized CIA-I unit.
The Fraudulent Deal That Led to Murder
DSP Nirmal Singh revealed the chain of events that culminated in the murder. Rajnikant, who was living in Lalru, Mohali, but originally from Telangana, had previously stayed in Russia. He allegedly lured accused Harman Singh with promises of employment in Russia.
A deal was finalized for Rs 5 lakh. Rajnikant arranged a Russian e-visa for Harman and called him to Russia. However, the promised job never materialized. Frustrated, both men returned to India on December 15, 2025.
After their return, Harman persistently demanded his money back, leading to repeated arguments. On the fateful day of January 6, Harman, accompanied by his friend Ramswaroop, brought Rajnikant to the Thol village area in Kurukshetra in a car.
Another heated argument over the money ensued. In a fit of rage, Harman, aided by Ramswaroop, allegedly stabbed Rajnikant to death. To hide their crime, they dumped the body along the roadside before fleeing.
The CIA-I team, led by Inspector Surender Kumar, acted on specific intelligence and arrested both accused on January 8.
Police Warning on Job Rackets
The police emphasized that this case sheds light on the perils of illegal overseas job rackets. They have issued a stern warning and assured the public of strict action against anyone involved in such fraudulent activities. The investigation continues as police delve deeper into the network and motives behind the crime.
