Two arrested in Ludhiana Jain temple theft, silver recovered

Ludhiana police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft at a Jain temple, recovering a major portion of the stolen silver items. The suspects were nabbed following a probe led by Inspector Amritpal Singh, Station House Officer of PAU police station, acting on directions from Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma.

Details of the theft and arrests

The theft occurred during the night of June 13-14 at Jain Mandir in New Suria Vihar on Panj Peer Road. A case was registered on June 17 at PAU police station. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-3) Dev Singh addressed a press conference, confirming the arrests.

The suspects are Roshan Kumar and Sunil Mandal, alias Marindi, both residents near Gurdwara Buddha Sahib, Panj Peer Road, Dairy Complex, Hambran Road, Ludhiana. During interrogation, they confessed to stealing a silver idol, a silver Mangal Kalash (chowki), a silver Siddh Chakra, 20 silver plates, 20 silver bowls, four large silver bowls, approximately Rs 10,000-15,000 from the golak, and a DVR.

Recovery of stolen items

Based on their disclosure, police recovered the silver idol of Lord Shantinath Bhagwan, the silver Mangal Kalash, and the silver Siddh Chakra. Preliminary investigation revealed that Roshan Kumar has a criminal background with previous theft cases registered against him. Further investigation is ongoing.
