Two Fraudsters Arrested in New Town for Kidnapping and Extortion Scheme Targeting Bangladeshi Youths
In a shocking incident, two fraudsters, one of whom is a Bangladeshi national, were apprehended in New Town on Monday. They are accused of orchestrating a kidnapping and extortion plot that targeted two Bangladeshi youths, exploiting their aspirations for international travel.
Details of the Alleged Kidnapping and Extortion
According to police reports, the accused lured the victims with false promises of arranging Portuguese visas, a tactic that preyed on their dreams of emigration. On Sunday, the youths were taken to a service apartment in Baligari, where they were forcibly confined and subjected to physical assault. The situation escalated when the kidnappers made a video call to the families of the victims in Bangladesh.
During this distressing call, the families were shown their loved ones held captive, and a ransom demand of Rs 3 lakh was issued for their release. Under duress, the families complied and transferred the amount. However, the accused did not stop there; they demanded an additional Rs 27 lakh, prompting the families to alert the authorities immediately.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The swift action by the families led to a police investigation that culminated in the arrest of the two suspects in New Town. The accused are now facing serious charges related to kidnapping, extortion, and fraud. This case highlights the dangers of fraudulent immigration schemes and the importance of vigilance when dealing with such offers.
Authorities have emphasized that this incident serves as a cautionary tale for individuals seeking visas or immigration assistance, urging them to verify credentials and avoid deals that seem too good to be true. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to uncover any further details or potential accomplices involved in this criminal operation.
