Two Men Arrested for Brutal Triple Murder in Palamu Over Black Magic Claims

In a shocking incident rooted in superstition, two men were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing three members of a family in the Purani Bathan Kusri hamlet of Palamu district. The arrests follow a brutal attack that has sent ripples through the local community, highlighting the grim consequences of deep-seated beliefs in witchcraft and black magic.

Victims Identified as Family of Four Targeted in Early Morning Assault

The victims have been identified as Vijay Bhuiyan, aged 50, his wife Hemanti Devi, 45, and their son Chotu, who was just 18 years old. According to police reports, the family was hacked to death in a violent assault that also left their daughter, Mamta, with serious injuries. The attack unfolded in the early hours of February 1, around 6 am, when the accused allegedly forced their way into the victims' home.

The sequence of events, as detailed by authorities, began with the assailants targeting Vijay Bhuiyan first, resulting in his immediate death at the scene. They then turned their aggression towards Hemanti Devi, Chotu, and Mamta. Tragically, Hemanti and Chotu succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while Mamta was left in a critical condition, fighting for her life.

Motive Linked to Superstition and Allegations of Witchcraft

Police investigations have revealed that the motive behind this heinous crime stems from the accused's belief that Vijay Bhuiyan had practiced black magic on their father, which they blamed for his death. This suspicion allegedly fueled their rage, leading to the premeditated attack on the unsuspecting family.

Palamu Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan provided insights into the case, stating, "We have eyewitnesses to the incident. Vijay's daughter has also recorded her statement before an executive magistrate at MMCH, Daltonganj." This testimony is expected to play a crucial role in the legal proceedings against the accused.

Evidence Collected and Accused Remanded to Judicial Custody

Law enforcement officials have gathered substantial evidence to support the charges. Police sources confirmed that sufficient eyewitness accounts and circumstantial evidence have been collected. Significantly, the axe used in the crime has been recovered, bolstering the case against the perpetrators.

The two accused, identified as Ravindra Bhuiyan and Pramod Bhuiyan, were produced before a court on Tuesday. Following the hearing, they were remanded to judicial custody, where they will await further legal action. The swift arrests and evidence collection underscore the police's commitment to addressing such violent crimes in the region.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by superstitions and the urgent need for community awareness and education to prevent similar incidents in the future. The local authorities continue to investigate the matter thoroughly to ensure justice for the victims and their grieving family.
