In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district, two cousins were arrested on Wednesday for the alleged gangrape of a 22-year-old woman who was a coaching student in Orai. The crime occurred on Tuesday after the accused reportedly administered an intoxicating substance to the victim.
Chilling Details of the Assault Emerge
According to the police complaint filed by the student's father on Wednesday night, one of the accused, who had previously attended coaching classes with the woman, lured her to Akodhi village in the Ait police station area. He took her there on his motorcycle under the false pretext of helping her with her studies.
The complaint states that once at the location, the accused offered the woman a cold drink that was laced with an intoxicant. After consuming it, she lost consciousness. It was in this vulnerable state that the accused, together with his cousin, allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Unconscious Abandonment and Swift Arrests
After the assault, the perpetrators left the unconscious woman at a local bus stand. Alert bystanders noticed her condition and managed to apprehend one of the accused at the scene. The accused attempted to deceive the crowd by claiming he had found the woman lying unconscious on Jhansi Road and was merely dropping her at the bus stand.
The woman's family members rushed to the spot upon being informed, brought her home, and also recorded a video of the accused youth. After regaining consciousness, the victim narrated the entire harrowing ordeal and positively identified the accused. Her father, who had been in Bithoor, Kanpur, for his brother's last rites, learned of the incident upon his return and immediately approached the police.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Acting on the formal complaint, the Orai police registered a case and swiftly arrested both accused cousins. Circle Officer (CO) of Konch, Parmeshwar Prasad, confirmed that a case was registered and both individuals were taken into custody. As part of the standard investigative procedure, medical examinations of both the accused and the survivor have been conducted. Both accused were subsequently sent to jail.
This incident has sent waves of anger and concern through the local community in Orai, highlighting issues of safety for students, particularly women who relocate for educational purposes.
