Two Notorious Criminals Injured in Police Encounter During Robbery Plan in Etawah
Two history-sheeters were injured and arrested following a dramatic police encounter in Etawah district late on Friday night. The incident unfolded near the Masnai bridge as the criminals were allegedly planning a robbery.
Police Action Based on Informer Tip
Police teams from Chaubiya and Jaswantnagar stations were conducting joint patrols when they received crucial information from an informer. The tip revealed that two notorious criminals were heading towards Etawah via the Masnai bridge with the intention of committing a robbery.
Acting swiftly on this input, officers cordoned off the area near the bridge and began checking vehicles. After some time, a motorcycle approached the spot. When police signalled the riders to stop, they allegedly opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill and attempted to flee the scene.
Retaliatory Firing Leads to Arrests
Police retaliated in self-defence during the exchange of fire. In the ensuing encounter, accused Shivam Kanjad was shot in the left leg while accused Rinku alias Brigadier sustained a gunshot wound in his right leg. Both individuals were arrested immediately at the spot.
The injured accused received prompt medical attention. They were rushed to a hospital where they are currently undergoing treatment for their wounds.
Weapons and Criminal History Recovered
From the encounter site, police recovered significant evidence including:
- Two illegal pistols of .315 bore
- Two live cartridges
- Four empty cartridges
- Two misfired cartridges
- The motorcycle used in the crime
According to police records, both Shivam Kanjad alias Golu and Rinku are notorious criminals with extensive criminal backgrounds. One of them reportedly figures among the district's top 10 most wanted criminals.
Shivam Kanjad faces several serious cases registered against him in Etawah and neighbouring districts. These include charges of robbery, attempt to murder, violations under the Arms Act, Gangster Act and NDPS Act.
Rinku also confronts multiple criminal cases including murder, kidnapping, rape and Arms Act violations.
Official Statement and Legal Proceedings
SP Rural Etawah Shrishchandra confirmed that joint action was taken by Chaubiya and Jaswantnagar police teams based on specific input. He stated that after the accused fired at police personnel, retaliatory firing led to their apprehension.
A formal case has been registered at Chaubiya police station following the encounter. Further legal action is currently underway as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
