Tragic Collision Claims Two Lives on Busy National Highway
A devastating road accident on the Chennai–Bengaluru National Highway resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred near the Mambakkam Sipcot stretch close to Sriperumbudur when a mini cargo van violently crashed into a stationary lorry.
Details of the Fatal Morning Crash
The accident took place around 8 am on a stretch known for heavy vehicular movement. According to police reports, the van was transporting a consignment of iron goods from Bengaluru to Chennai. For reasons yet to be fully determined, the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The van was travelling at high speed when it veered and smashed directly into the rear end of a lorry that was parked on the roadside. The impact of the collision was severe, completely crushing the front portion of the smaller vehicle.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The van carried three occupants, all of whom suffered in the crash. The two men seated in the front bore the brunt of the impact.
Dileep (45), a resident of Kerala, and Stanley (49), from Bengaluru, were trapped in the mangled wreckage. Despite efforts, both men succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead at the scene.
The third occupant, Neeraj (25) from Uttar Pradesh, who was seated at the rear of the van, survived with a fractured arm. Alert local residents and police personnel quickly rushed him to the Sriperumbudur Government Hospital. Medical authorities have confirmed that his condition is now stable.
Rescue Operations and Police Investigation
Fire and rescue services personnel were dispatched to the location. They worked to extricate the two bodies from the deformed vehicle. The bodies were subsequently sent to the Chengalpet government hospital for a postmortem examination.
The Sriperumbudur police have registered a formal case regarding the incident. An investigation is underway, and authorities have launched a search to locate the driver of the parked lorry, who was absent from the scene at the time of the accident.
This tragic event has once again highlighted the dangers on one of South India's busiest highway corridors, raising questions about roadside parking norms and high-speed driving.
